email of the week: googling your freedom

From Jeffrey Bridgman:

Google maps is showing me my freedom to stay a bit more and chat now.

It says that this route runs every 15 minutes from 5am to 11:30pm, which means if I get talking with someone, I don't care that I'm missing the 8:27pm bus since there'll be another one in about 15 minutes. That's a great improvement from the "Catch the next bus at 8:27" directions it used to tell you.
I think we're just seeing the beginning of this.  We don't just want directions, we want options!

This only works if you have the “New Google Maps,” FYI.

And in the case of the Silver Line, it isn’t even true as it drops down to 30-40 minute service after about 8 pm. The Green Line operates every 20 after 8 pm, which is now the lowest frequency of the Metro Rail lines (although many times real frequency is about 20 due to maintenance). LACMTA’s night time frequency has been one of the biggest complaints, since service from 7-11 pm is some of the worst in the country compared to other major cities, which often run similar levels of service during midday into the evening.
